CASE STUDY – 175 MW LIQUID FUEL POWER PLANT

CLIENT
Tevisa Termelétrica Viana S/A

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
After commissioning, it turned out that the installed silencer performance was not sufficient.
In particular, complaints were received from local residents about noise disturbances in the low frequency range radiated from the existing exhaust system. Based on measurements by external institutes the level of additional silencing needed could be determined. Innovative engineering was required to upgrade the system and to counteract the noise problem.

SCOPE OF WORK
Design, engineer, manufacture and supply of Exhaust-gas Silencers.

ACOUSTICAL REQUIREMENTS
Noise reduction of the main interfering frequencies in the range 20 – 100 Hz by min. of 10 dB.

UNIQUE PROJECT HURDLES
For the analysis of the acoustic vibrations in the overall system, an acoustic model had to be created for the existing silencers, which could be introduced into the calculation.
Critical noise specifications in the low frequency range

RESULTS
LUHE-SILENCER met all required acoustical targets for this project.
After the installation of the new silencers, an independent acoustic consulting company has issued an extensive expert opinion on the effectiveness of the new silencers.
The results show that the Silencers are perfectly dimensioned and have a very significant effect with an attenuation of 10 to 25 dB at the main interference frequencies of the sound emission.
This means a total silencer performance of around 22 dB, which represents a reduction of more than 99.5% of the sound energy.
